Position Function:  
This position will be a highly visible member of the Access Systems Division leadership team, the largest operating division of Overhead Door Corporation representing the Overhead Door and Wayne Dalton brands. This role will be responsible for the design, development, and sustaining activities associated with a high volume, consumer products division.  The primary focus will be coordinating the efforts to plan, manage and execute the development of the product portfolio to achieve strategic growth objectives and enhance market competitiveness through development, quality, sales and customer support. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead engineering team to produce product development to support key market growth initiatives. 
  • Define the objectives and department goals of the engineering organization that supports the overall business strategy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with dealers/distributors as well as other and professional channels.
  • Develops strategic research and development and technology roadmap for the division.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and supervision for the engineering team.
  • Develops and leads the divisions innovation and research and development road map.
  • Experience with leading and participating in a Companywide ERP implementation.
  • Provides expert advice to legal and technical customer service in product complaints, technology or product matters involved in product liability litigation.
  • Manage and improve engineering related responsibilities for the design, development, sustaining activities and quality for all products. 
  • Recommends and implements strategic changes in manufacturing, engineering, and operations throughout the organization.
  • Must be capable of interacting in a team environment and working with all levels of the organization to achieve the best possible end product from all functional viewpoints.
  • Work closely with product marketing to support product specification development and monitor the attainment of those specifications throughout the entire product life cycle.
  • Monitor, track and pro-actively coordinate the progress of all new product developments paying special attention to on-time delivery and attainment of ROI objectives for each project. 
Other Responsibilities
  • Travel as needed to visit manufacturing plants, dealers/distributors and construction job sites.
Skills/Experience Requirements
  • 10 to 15 years previous engineering management experience in a manufacturing environment or building products industry.
  • Multi-site management experience across North America and exposure to Asia, Europe and Mexico.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in management information systems, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, budget control, sales and marketing, and legal issues related to product liability.
  • Strong personal presence, self-confidence and infectious sense of urgency.
  • Must have a proven track record of transforming strategy into an actionable plan that delivers measurable business results.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and communicate with people all at levels of the organization.  Must be comfortable on the plant floor and with customers.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering required.
  • MBA is highly desirable
  • Previous training in Demand Flow, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma
