Position Function: 

This position reports to The Genie Company President and will be responsible for the design, development, and sustaining activities associated with a high volume, consumer products division.  Additionally, this position will ensure that the manufacturing teams provide its internal and external customers with products and services that meet or exceeds established customer requirements.  The primary focus will be developing and executing an engineering and manufacturing strategy which delivers low cost, high quality products and delivers industry-leading innovation, quality and customer satisfaction.  Responsible for all product engineering and manufacturing activities related to design, development, production and maintenance of Genie products.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Lead both NPD and Sustaining engineering teams to produce high volume consumer electromechanical products that will drive market growth, cost reductions and/or quality improvement initiatives.

  • Direct and maintain UL certification of corporate verification and validation center.

  • Manage business patent/intellectual property portfolio across residential, commercial, accessory, and connected products.

  • Lead connected/IOT team consisting of cloud development, operations, quality assurance, and application development.

  • Ensure product designs are compliant with the requirements of applicable governing agencies (i.e., FCC and UL).

  • Monitor, track and pro-actively coordinate the progress of all new product developments paying special attention to on-time delivery and attainment of ROI objectives for each project.

  • Lead and coordinate aggressive value engineering programs to improve both the cost structure and quality of products.

  • Drive cost savings and labor improvement strategies in product design across the division.

  • Work closely with Product Management / Marketing to support product specification development and monitor the attainment of those specifications throughout the entire product life cycle.

  • Establish department goals and organize workforce to accomplish results within budget and on schedule.

  • Lead manufacturing/operations across multiple sites- both domestic and international ensuring that safety, quality, productivity, waste control, and maintenance KPIs are met.

  • Recommend/drive year over year manufacturing plant improvements including capital expenditures

  • Function as a member of the executive team and contribute to strategic management of the division.

  • Will travel as needed.


Skills/Experience Requirements


·         10 to 15 years previous engineering management experience in a manufacturing environment.

·         Multi-site management experience across North America and exposure to Asia and Europe.

·         Strong knowledge and practical experience in management information systems, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, budget control, sales and marketing, and legal issues related to product liability and intellectual property.

·         Experience with shifting domestic manufacturing to LCRs-prefer hands-on execution as well as concept/strategy development.

·         Six-Sigma black belt certification preferred, experience with lean manufacturing processes.

·         Strong personal presence, self confidence and infectious sense of urgency.

·         Must have a proven track record of transforming strategy into an actionable plan that delivers measurable business results.

·         Demonstrated ability to lead and communicate with people all at levels of the organization.  Must be comfortable on the plant floor and with customers.


Education Requirements


·         BSEE preferred.  MBA is highly desirable

·         Previous training in Demand Flow, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma.
