Position Function:

The Vice President and General Manager for Commercial Solutions leads a compelling long-range sales strategy for commercial products, service and maintenance programs that maximizes and drives market potential. This sales leadership role will build and lead a robust, agile, and motivated commercial sales team as well as provide effective strategic leadership for the sales organization focused on demand generation and revenue growth. The VP/GM Commercial Solutions will work cross-functionally across the organization and closely with the division’s leadership team.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops the sales plan to fulfill the growth and revenue goals of the commercial sales channel.
  • Actively searches the marketplace for opportunities to grow and take share.
  • Support the growth of the commercial sales team: hire, develop, mentor and coach team members; develop best practice documentation and processes; and plan for the future by identifying and addressing bottlenecks, gaps, and risks
  • Builds and develops a high performing team of engaged, high-performing sales professionals and sales managers.
  • Build and execute go to market strategy for various commercial solutions.
  • Create and execute effective presentations, including corporate and solution capabilities, prospective client proposals, bid projects and business case/justification.
  • Participates in the development of annual business plans as a strategic partner with a specific perspective on the Commercial value streams of the business.
  • Develops the commercial excellence initiatives and plans that support the Company strategy for organic growth and generation of more leads in the market. These elements include:
    • market penetration and commercial strategies,
    • competitive analysis and pricing strategies,
    • channel management and commercial innovation,
    • sales tools and execution,
    • commercial operations and sales forecasting.
  • Support business development efforts by attending industry conferences and events.
  • Supporting direct reports by participating and leading in client and prospect meetings and engaging other corporate resources as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and sell to top client leadership (c-suite).
  • Maintains personal contact with major customers, distributors, engineering and architectural firms, where position status would be a principal factor in a relationship.
  • Monitors product, service, billing and delivery to ensure customer satisfaction.  Promptly address any problems with a defined corrective action plan.
  • Develops the organizational structure to achieve current and future business goals.
  • Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Approves proposals for key national account development and contract price negotiations with key National Account Managers, Regional and Project Managers.
  • Recommends changes to current outside sales techniques or procedures based on team performance and new or more effective selling techniques.
  • Partners with Manufacturing Operations and Supply Chain to ensure a best in class customer experience.
  • Directs the identification and execution of critical sales activities.

Skills/Experience Requirements

  • 10 - 12 years’ experience in a senior sales leadership position with previous experience leading a business-to-business outside sales force.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 50 % of time.
  • Proven relationships with key stakeholders in the commercial business segment.
  • Sales experience in the commercial building product industry required, with commercial door experience a plus.
  • A proven leader with excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills that is effective at working with and influencing individuals at all organizational levels; persuasive and empathetic; able to handle pressure and manage conflict.
  • Experience directly with building products and/or construction services.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional influencing skills and ability to build key relationships inside an organization.
  • Proven success working within a highly matrixed organization and establishing strong relationships across all functions.
  • Must be a team player and business partner who is open, communicative, and committed to the overall success of the organization.
  • A proven track record in generating profitable revenue growth is required.
  • Individual should be entrepreneurial in nature and have an assertive personality, yet they must be polished and able to achieve results by influencing others.
  • A roll up your sleeves work style and must have the effective organizational development and management skills which are necessary for success. 

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related area required. 
  • MBA preferred
  • Experience in building products industry strongly preferred, especially as it pertains to commercial products.
  • Experience managing division/system/channel revenue in excess of $50M preferred.
