The Position 

The Health, Safety and Environment Manager is responsible to provide functional coaching and direction to the NationServe Team. This position serves as an HSE Business Partner to the VP, Operations and management team at the NationServe locations.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and recommend practical and proactive HSE programs and                    practices, and proactively stays up to date with HSE legislation,                            policies and regulations to ensure compliance.

Regularly assess and complete updates to the NationServe safety                      program; safety manual, safe work procedures, JHA’s, etc., including                  preparation and communication of all relevant safety                                            information/documentation, development of appropriate safety                              standards, reporting, and management of emergency response                            protocols.

Lead and support NationServe locations in internal and external                          audits.

Manage and maintain up to date records in compliance with                                customer requirements on a variety of customer specific websites;                      including but not limited to ISN (RAVS Plus), ComplyWorks, Avetta,                    etc.  Update and implement company programs to align to customer                    requirements, as appropriate.

Lead in-house training and orientation with managers and team                            members regarding key HSE issues, and foster a culture of                                  continuous HSE improvement.

Track and monitor required HSE related training and ensure all                            workers and subcontractors maintain compliance.

Work with the sales and operation teams to support customer safety                    requirements; including attending customer meetings and liaising                        with customer HSE & project personnel as appropriate.

Provide counsel and guidance to managers, supervisors and team                      members on HSE and related topics.

Collaborate with local managers to investigate safety incidents and                      complete internal and external reporting requirements.

Participate in and ensure effective injury management in all cases.

Ensure a consistent approach to HSE across all NationServe                              locations, as well as alignment with Division and company-wide HSE                  initiatives.

Lead or work as part of a team on special projects and initiatives, as                    required. 

Other responsibilities may be assigned as warranted to support                            achievement of division business goals.

Travel to all NationServe locations at least annually; approximately                      20% travel.  

Skills/Experience Requirements

5+ years of progressive HSE experience in a field services/construction              environment, at least 2 of which are in a head office/program lead                        capacity, or management position.

Pragmatic and principled when it comes to safety protocols.

Awareness and working knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.

Strong MS Office suite skills.

Must have strong verbal and written communication skills; the ability to                communicate even complex ideas and concepts in a concise, simple, and          actionable manner.

An energetic self-starter who takes initiative, owns responsibilities,                      establishes strong working relationships and is adaptable to growing and            changing environments.

Professionalism, tact and discretion are critical to this role.

Demonstrated success establishing systems and processes in a fast-                  paced, de-centralized, field-based environment.

Strong organization and decision making ability.

Good negotiation skills and persuasive ability and presentation skills.

Good analytical and problem solving skills.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

Education Requirements

College Degree in HSE or related field

A record of continuing education in HSE and business/leadership related            topics is desirable

Certified Safety Professional designation is preferred
