The Position:

Plans, directs and controls the activities of the plant to accomplish budgeted financial objectives and improve the competitive position and profitability of the Non-Foam manufacturing operation.  Products include residential pan doors, commercial pan doors, wood doors and aluminum doors.

Responsible for achieving the quality, cost, delivery and safety objectives of the facility.  Works closely with sales / marketing, engineering, human resources and purchasing. The position will be responsible for up to 100 team members.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs and controls the activities of the plant to accomplish budgeted financial objectives and improve the competitive position and profitability of the operation.  
  • Responsible for achieving the quality, cost, delivery and safety objectives of the facility.  
  • Works closely with sales / marketing, engineering and purchasing.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operation and cost factors.
  • Sets up and / or approves production schedules to insure that goals are met and finished good inventories and shipments are maintained at the proper level.  
  • Controls flow of materials and utilization of labor to insure adequate production at required quality levels to fulfill production requirements of the manufacturing plant.
  • Insure review of inventories and assist in monitoring the maintenance of inventory of all manufacturing material and supplies as required for the production of door products.
  • Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment.
  • Directs and approves all requisitions for maintenance and repair of building and equipment and for machine parts and manufacturing supplies.
  • Recommends and / or makes improvement in machinery and equipment and in manufacturing methods.
  • Directs operation of departments and guides supervisors in the performance of their duties.  Responsible for the motivation and development of subordinates to optimize their performance and their personal and professional growth.
  • Must focus and meet the plant's safety, quality and production standards.
  • Utilizes JDE and Oracle Systems to manage business metrics; provides feedback and reports daily to Leadership Team on progress of metrics.  Updates plants overall performance regarding metrics.
  • Leads efforts to measure customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, cost reduction and achievement of financial plan.
  • Coordinates problem solving sessions to continuously improve operational performance when appropriate.
  • Insures customer, financial and employee objectives are measured and achieved.
  • Ensures culture of high performance and high involvement is achieved.
  • An avid "I Believe in Zero" safety mentality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationships:
  • Position reports to Director of Operations (onsite in this close to one million square foot facility).
  • Peers:  Plant Manager Foam and Plant Manager Components.
  • Direct Reports:  Supervisors (total headcount of approx 180 over 2 shifts).
  • Engineering and Planning Support specific to the product.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university.
  • Ten years experience in manufacturing and production management.
  • Must of knowledge in other areas  i.e. information systems, manufacturing and industrial engineering, purchasing and product management.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements:

  • Typical work environment is in an office setting but also requires periods of time in the production environment.
  • Exposure to hot and cold environments in the office and factory.
